1920’s Vinnie Richards, Dunlop Flat-Top Tennis Ball Can UNOPENED
1920-30’s Vinnie Richards, Dunlop Flat-Top Tennis Ball Can UNOPENED. This is a fabulous early tennis can. It is a "tear-top" model which is an example of the earliest design. Called a "tear-top" because when the key was used to open the can it tore or sliced right through the metal leaving a dangerously sharp edge around the top of the can. There was no lid, the portion that came off when opened was to be discarded. This poor design did not last long which explains the rarity of this can. Another point of intrigue is the endorsement by Vinnie Richards. Very few tennis balls were endorsed by players and this is among the earliest... it is practically a piece of advertising! The condition is NR-MT!
