Product Details

Here we are offering a very scarce, vintage tennis ball container made by the Draper and Maynard Sporting Goods Company. D&M was a leading sporting goods producer during this time, located in Plymouth, New Hampshire. This is only the 3rd D&M tennis ball container that we have encountered. This style of can is known as a "tear-top" model, which is an example of the earliest design. It's called a "tear-top" because when the key was used to open the can it tore or sliced right through the metal leaving a dangerously sharp edge around the top of the can. There was no lid, the portion that came off when opened was to be discarded. This poor design did not last long which adds to the rarity of this can. A rare tennis collectible that will be a fine addition to any vintage sports collection.
