Rare 1890 Catcher’s Mitt from the Fingerless Glove Era

The offered vintage baseball glove is an Exceedingly Rare 1890 Catcher’s Mitt from the Fingerless Glove Era. This is to be considered a first generation catcher’s mitt. It is the style (shown above in the 1890 Spalding catalog) that would have been used on the non-throwing hand in conjunction with a fingerless glove used on the throwing hand. The mitt does NOT have a "pocket" and required both hands for catching. There is a light maker’s mark evident on the heel of the glove but it is not clear enough to determine the maker. However, the mitt is of the the highest quality and remains in exceptional EX-MT to NR-MT condition. An incredibly rare mitt in beautiful condition that will fill the void in even the most advanced vintage baseball glove collections!
